AHS Winter Band Concert 2014

The 2014 AHS Winter Band Concert was held Tuesday, December 16. The program started out presenting a flag honoring Louis Vasquez’s family for his service to our country. Though tears filled many audience members, it was an inspiring way to start the band concert. Mrs. Vasquez said through tears, “When you see us smiling around town, just know that we are smiling for him.”

The new band director, Jerrold Heide, split the concert into five different sections. Starting out with the Combined High School Bands, they played Westminster Carol, Greensleeves, and Cowboy Christmas. Alexis Garrett played We Three Kings on the vibraphone while the band prepared the stage for the other bands. Aydin Mack followed with a solo accompanied by Cynthia Horn and played Le Tambourin. The AHS Brass Ensemble played the classic Jingle Bells. To end the concert the AHS Jazz Band played three different pieces, Deck the Halls, Silent Night, and Funky Old St. Nick.

The bands did well in keeping the crowd entertained, and I’m looking forward to the next band concert! Nice job to all who preformed.
