As the school year came to a start the Journalism class had an interaction with Shawn who helps run the newspaper in Alliance, Nebraska. The class asked many questions ranging from different tips and tricks. Asking “How can you find stories when nothing is going on.” Shawn stated, “Back in high school, finding stories was never easy, you grow up in a small town with little to no activities, My journalism teacher used to have us go around to a set of teachers to fill out beat sheets which meant you would interview the teacher and see if anything was going on in their life that you could write a simple story about.”
As October came around teacher beat sheets kept on getting brought up. What if it could become a reality? Entering October the Journalism crew had the opportunity to pick three teachers of their choice for who they wanted to interview each month. Beat sheets were officially put into place to help people find a story for those who struggle to find one. Beat sheets can range from a teacher’s lesson plan to anything going on throughout the week. As the school year keeps on going by more and more beat sheets will be put into place! Keep up with The SPUD to learn more!
