Students learn in many different ways such as visual, auditory, reading or writing, and kinesthetic. The most common way to learn is visual is when a student learns more through pictures, colors, and maps. The next is auditory learners, auditory is when a student learns better by hearing information and conversing about a topic. Another learning style is kinesthetic. Kinesthetic is when a student uses their senses to learn something. The last learning method is reading or writing, this method is when a student learns primarily by reading the information and writing it down after they read it. I interviewed two students here at Alliance High School to see how different learning styles have impacted them.
The first person I interviewed was Gemini Winter. Gemini told me that she had two learning styles, reading/writing and visual. When asked why these work for her, she explained, “It helps me because I learn better when I see an example and when I am writing stuff down, I remember it easier.” I asked if she thinks most of the teachers at our school accommodate different learning styles and why, and Gemini answered, “It depends on the teacher. Some of the teachers do try to make sure that the students have the best way is by talking to them and learning about what works for them.” My final question for Gemini was if she has any study tips for students with these learning styles, she said, “talking to the teacher and trying to get help to get the best way to focus and learn.”
My final interview was with Nikki Fraedrich. My first question was what is her learning style and why? Nikki answered, “The best learning style for me is one on one. It’s best for me because I have a learning disorder.” When asked if she thinks most teachers at AHS try to accommodate different learning styles, she told me some do, but most do not. At the end of our interview, I asked Nikki if she had any study skills recommended for her type of learning style, and she told me no.
Different learning styles can benefit kids in many different ways! I highly recommend finding a study style that works for your learning style and hope you can grow from it.
