Since 1992, Mr. Hasz has been working as an educator throughout Nebraska. While being a full-time teacher Mr. Hasz served in the Army Reserve, spending, nearly all his time serving the people of this country in one way or another. As the end of the 2023-2024 school year rolls around, Mr. Hasz is teaching his final semester. After spending thirty-two years serving others in his community, he is now retiring to spend more time with his growing family!
Following his enlistment in 1990, Hasz used his G.I. Bill to obtain his teaching degree in Business and Social Sciences at Buena Vista University. Becoming a teacher to work with high school students and help them towards success. When he wasn’t deployed Hasz worked all around Omaha, Nebraska at Central High School, Saint Wenceslaus, Burke High School, and St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic School.
After retiring from the Army as a Captain, Mr. Hasz moved to his dream house and continued working as a History teacher at Alliance High School, teaching Civil War, Modern U.S. History, Economics, Sociology, and Psychology to the young adults at our school since May 2020. The staff and students are very appreciative of him and the stories he brings into the classroom. When asking a few teachers about their opinions of Mr. Hasz, nothing but positive things were said. “Overall super helpful, very knowledgeable about all things history, makes coffee and he is humorous, he is a funny guy!” said Mrs. Swartz, “He is a great leader to all of us younger teachers, he always has good advice, and obvious his leadership from the military, and from teaching for so long it is hard to find that today. He took care of the veterans day project and he loved it and he was the only person to do that because he knew what needed to be done. He is just a great guy!” said Mr. Wells.
Though many of us are sad about losing Mr. Hasz as a teacher, we’re happy to know that Hasz will be enjoying his retirement by – “going to work at Box Butte Reservoir for the state of Nebraska. I’m going to go to a million football games” – as he stated. The Spud wishes Mr. Hasz a happy retirement!
