On Tuesday, January 28, the Alliance Bulldogs wrestling team faced off with the Gering Bulldogs. Both teams did extremely well, but the Alliance Bulldogs came out on top with a team score of 38 to 30.  One weight class, heavyweight, was open for both teams. Gering had three open weight classes at 113, 126, and 220 when Alliance only had one at 195.

Tuesday was also parents’ night, and the only home wrestling dual of the year. This year there are only three seniors: Cristian Hulsey, Austin Pohlman, and Devin Ushio. After the dual Coach Travis Peak said, “The team wrestled with a lot of fire and I am very happy with the effort that was put out. Everything after that worked itself out.”

The dual consisted more than JV and varsity. There were many other activities involving the crowd including a blindfolded game. There were also three federation wrestling matches, and music for the AHS wrestlers. Although the dual wasn’t as smooth it could be it was a great night filled with riveting matches and fun for everyone.

Freshman David Berg won by tech fall over Garret Allbaugh. Junior DJ Weare won over Baily Hort. Weare took the match into over time and won in sudden victory getting the first takedown, Baily Hort was ranked third in the state at the time. After the victory DJ Weare said, “I felt accomplished. I’m looking forward to districts and seeing him again.” Junior Walker Johnson pinned Kelsey Hutson in twenty-four seconds, and Cameron Nagaki pinned Jon Starke in one minute and thirty-one seconds.

There was a late start to the evening due to Gering being late to weigh-ins but that did not seem to stop the Alliance Bulldogs from getting the win. Gering had some of their wrestlers not show up for the bus, which caused an open spot at 126 giving Devin Ushio the forfeit. All of the wrestlers did exceptionally well as they prepare themselves for districts in two weeks.
