Alliance Takes First Fifth Year in a Row
The Alliance High Wrestling team traveled to Yoder, Wyoming to compete in the Southeast Dual Tournament. Alliance placed first overall for the fifth year in a row. Dualing Hemingford, Lingle/Morrill, Sioux County/Banner County, Gordon-Rushville, and Chadron.
The championship dual was between Alliance and Chadron. The final score was 52-21. Jorgen Johnson defeated Daniel Goings 12-5. Goings is the fifth ranked 106-pound wrestler in the state. Ross Dunn took a forfeit for the team, while Ritzen took a forfeit for Chadron. Lane Applegarth won over Paul Watak 5-3. Rey Valdez pinnned Kane Wellnitz in the third period with thirteen seconds left on the clock. DJ Weare pinned Brandon Walczyk in 2:33. Walker Johnson pinned Trevyn Waldron in 51 seconds. James Long took a forfeit for Alliance. Danny Vallejo followed by taking another forfeit for the team. Bryant Wilson defeated Curtis McMann 11-2. Willy Cogdill pinned Matthew Pachak in 1:44. Chris Wright took another forfeit for Alliance. Tanner Kickland won over Jacob Baldwin 8-2. Alex Fritzler took the forfeit for Chadron.
Also at this tournament, Walker Johnson broke the school record of 135 wins. Johnson now holds the record at 137 wins. He will compete at the district competition and further more state, only adding more to the record. AHS is excited to see what more Johnson has to bring to the team, school and community.
