AHS track starts season strong

On Saturday March 19 the Alliance High School track athletes kicked off their season at the Chadron State College Indoor Track and Field Meet. Due to the fact that it is an indoor meet and the first meet of the season, most of the athletes only competed in two or three events.

For the boys, it was a very successful day. For running events, Brody Brennan placed first in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.77. Owen Shelmadine placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.06. Bailey Shimp and Mason Hiemstra also placed in the 800 meter run. Shimp finished fifth with the time of 2:24.52 and Hiemstra finished with sixth place with the time of 2:25.55. In the 55 meter hurdles Bryant Wilson placed third with a time of 8.57, as well as Brendan Brehmer placing fifth with a time of 9.06. Owen Shelmadine, Mason Hiemstra, Andrew Stitch, and Tyler Adamson finished third in the boys 4×800 meter relay with a time of 9:46.10. Finishing up the running events with the 4×400 meter relay, Alliance won with a time of 3:40.63. Members of the relay team were Brendan Brehmer, Bryant Wilson, Klayton Nordeen and Brody Brennan.

The Alliance boys also had a successful day in the field event section of the track meet. Tristan Heldenbrand placed tenth in the shot put, throwing 38-03.50. Trevor Ridenour took home a gold medal in high jump, jumping an impressive 6-02. Baden Shelmadine placed third in pole vault with a vault height of 10-06. Bailey Shimp also placed in pole vault, tying for eighth place at 9-00. Wrapping up the field events was Klayton Nordeen, who placed second in long jump, jumping 20-05.

The girls also had a very successful day. Jennifer Figueroa placed second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.97. Madison Hiemstra placed fifth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 8.11. KayLee McDonald placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:42.95. Hannah Weare and Dani Carter also placed in the 800 meter run. Weare placed seventh with a time of 2:57.02 and Carter placed ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:57.67. Madison Reiber placed second in the 55 meter hurdles running a time of 9.65. Closing out the running events, the girl 4x4oo meter relay placed fifth with a time of 4:42.15. Members of the relay were Madison Morgan, Sydney Nordeen, Madison Hiemstra and KayLee McDonald.

For the field events, the Alliance girls had many placers. Sariah Grant placed fourth throwing 31-09.50. Josie Otto placed fifth in the high jump at 4-07. Dani Carter placed ninth in the high jump at 4-03. Jennifer Figueroa tied for sixth place in the pole vault at the height of 7-03. Madison Morgan and Madison Reiber both tied for seventh in girls long jump with jumps of 15-05. Oryanna Trout placed fifth in the triple jump, jumping 29-01.

Junior Brody Brennan stated that “I am excited for the rest of the season and I think it went well for the first meet of the season.”
