From the director of “TRON,” and “Legacy,” and the producer of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” the film “Oblivion” has arrived at Alliance’s Geju theaters. “Oblivion” earned 37.1 million dollars in only the first weekend of showings including 5.5 million in profit from 323 IMAX theaters. “Oblivion” has had, by far, the best North American opening of any of Tom Cruises movies outside of the “Mission Impossible” series and “War of the Worlds.” “Oblivion” also ranks in the twenty on the list of Tom Cruise’s films to make more than 200 million worldwide. In fact, as of date it has made $82,694,360 in the US and Canada and $243,594,360 worldwide.
“Oblivion” was originally scheduled for release on July 10, 2013, but at the announcement of the new “Jurassic Park 3D” movie, the release date was moved up possibly to avoid competition between the two movies.
The movie is set on Earth which has been destroyed after decades of war. Creatures they called the Scavs attacked Earth after their own planet was destroyed. The human race won the war, but ruined the earth they once knew and destroyed Earth’s moon. The Earth was ruled uninhabitable and a mission to colonize Titan, Saturn’s largest moon was enacted. Several hydro reactors were built to harvest Earth’s oceans for fuel. The last remaining humans on the planet are Jack and Vic. They remain only to service the drones that protect the hydro reactors from damage at the hands of the scav.
The teaser text leaves a lot to the imagination and draws in this movie’s key audience. It reads, “On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save man kind.”
All in all, the plot of “Oblivion” was superior to that of most other science fiction movies and is filled to the breaking point with multitudes of twists and turns. The plot is accompanied by breath-taking depictions of the after-earth ruins of New York City. The graphics of this epic tale are mystifying and include the images, of a once-thriving city overtaken by nature.
This movie is good and the plot turns are engaging just when you believe it is going one way, it goes another. The unpredictable plot, is refreshing in contrast to the highly predictable movies that have been released recently. On planet “Oblivion,” everything is not as it seems.
