Alliance High School was invited to Chadron State College’s Scholastics Day on October 25, 2023. CSC Scholastics is when students are selected to perform in a test and compete for a scholarship to Chadron State. Our school had 41 students attend, and took 60 tests overall.
Kinize Bridge, my first interviewee, having taken three tests in total! The three tests she took were Health, Consumer Issues, and Business Communication. When I asked what her tests were about, Kinize responded, “The Health test talked a lot about macromolecules and fitness, the Consumer Issues test had a lot of percentage questions and questions asking about interests in numbers and hypothetical situation questions, the Business Communications test had questions on correct verb usage, sentence structure, spelling, and resumes.” She was 5th in Consumer Issues, 4th in Bussiness Communications, and no result for Health. Another question I asked was if she enjoyed Scholastics Day, and she answered, “I did enjoy Scholastics Day. It is always fun to go to CSC and explore the campus. There are always lots of fun activities to do. For example, before my three tests, I played cornhole with some of my friends and after I was done testing I watched some people from our school play pool.” The last thing I asked Kinize was if this was her first year going, Kinize said no, she also went last year as well!
My next interview was with Henry Hoff, he took the Algebra 2 test. The first question I asked Henry was what his test was about, he answered, “It was about all kinds of algebraic things. I honestly can’t remember the questions too much, but there were a lot of equations I had done before but there was a lot I hadn’t done, like quadratic equations for example.” He placed 17th but Henry has never taken Algebra 2 before! The next thing that I asked Henry was if he enjoyed Scholastics Day, he stated, “I think it was pretty fun. There were quite a lot of things to do, like the game room and the little stands you could go to hosted by different organizations. There were lots of little free things at those stands too, which I definitely didn’t mind. The last question was if he had gone before and Henry said he went last year.
When getting the results back, Alliance High did amazing! We had 17 students take the top ten in the tests they took.
