Sharing the Halls?

With the class of 2020 graduating this past May, there is more room for new students at the high school. This year, there are many upperclassmen with freshmen siblings. What do these upperclassmen think about their younger siblings being in the same school as them? For this article, I have interviewed senior Shawna Banks as well as included my perspective on having a younger brother in high school.

This year my younger brother, Landyn Branstiter, is a freshman at AHS and we are both involved in band. This includes marching band, pep band and concert band. I feel being in the same school as my brother has brought us closer. I give him rides in the morning to school, and that gives us time with, just us, to have conversations. My favorite thing about being in the same school as him is being able to see him interact with people other than family. My least favorite thing would have to be being his personal Uber. Overall, sharing the halls with my brother is not as bad as I planned on it being!

Banks, a senior, has a little sister, Sierra Banks, a freshman. This year the Banks sisters have band and jazz band together. They both participate in student council and key club outside of school. When asked if being in the same school has changed their relationship, Shawna responded, “Kind of, I can nag on her more personally about practicing music.” Shawna’s favorite thing about sharing a school with her little sister is the fact that driving places together is much easier. Her least favorite thing is that she can never escape her little sister. She is, in Shawna’s words, everywhere.

Being in the same school as your sibling can be the start of a stronger relationship, so before you begin to think of the negatives, think of the positives that can come from sharing the halls!
