Honors Convocation is an awards ceremony at the end of the school year awarding students for their hard work academically and their effort in the class. Honors Convocation is hosted every year, and this year it was hosted on  May 6. Teachers nominate students that they believe have done their best in class and have worked the hardest.

The awards started off with a welcome from Dr. Vickie Grant. Assistant principle Eric Oestman handed out academic letters to 16 seniors, 20 juniors, and 20 sophomores. The big awards for the night were handed out to Teagan Hill-Ramirez, (RYLA award), Rylee Trout (RHOP), Baliey O’Conner (Hugh O’Brian Leadership), and Kylin Martin (Teammates).

During the majority of the ceremony, teachers hand out awards to the students they feel worked the hardest or showed the best qualities of a student. Every department of learning handed out their awards. The departments included Industrial  Technology and Agriculture. Family and Consumer Science, Math department, Language Arts, Foreign Language, Science, who had a surprise visit from “Alien”, who wowed the crowd, Communication and Business, Social Studies,  and Physical Education,  Art and Computer Programming departments.

Mrs. Dimmit handed out medals and a certificate to the first, second, or third place winners in the Chadron State Scholastic Contest. After that, Mr. Swanson handed out participation awards to the students who participated in Academic Decathlon.  Mr. Oestman finished off the night with a quick final speech. “Parents or guardians, please stand up. We want to thank you, even though we may not have a certificate for you, they are sitting next to you or somewhere else in the crowd. Thank you.” The administrators of the Alliance Public School District believe in the kids and the education they are getting. When starting off the night, Dr. Grant stated, “These students are hard working and dedicated and we are proud to see so many faces here tonight.”
