Last week was an important event for the students of AHS. For the seniors, it marked their last high school dance and for the younger classman it was a night they could dress up and enjoy with friends. This past Saturday students at AHS put on their best gowns or their rented tuxes and danced the night away at the 2013 prom, An Evening in Paris.
Dinner at the West Side Event Center began a five with live entertainment from alumni Dan Marquez and Senior Everette Gerth. While eating dinner students also voted for which seniors they would like to see crowed Prom Queen and Prom King and attendants. For dinner, prom goers had the options of chicken, roast beef, or shrimp with dinner rolls, garlic mash potatoes, and appetizers. The good food, awesome entertainment, and lively atmosphere left diners with anticipation for the dance.
But first…
The PAC was opened up to the community and those who wished could pay a one-dollar admission fee to admire the students’ gowns and tuxes during a Grand March. After the couples took turns promenading across the stage the prom candidates returned and the winners were announced. For the girls, Senior Kaitlynn Grant was crowned second attendant, Senior Shae Brennan was first attendant, and Senior Olivia Vogel was crowned Prom Queen. For the boys, Senior Kyler Kaping was titled second attendant, Senior Josh Boness was first attendant, and Senior Devan Olligmueller was crowned Prom King.
After the Grand March students rushed to the dance floor to get their “groove thing” on. During the dance an ice-cream bar filled with chocolate, caramel, strawberry syrup, and toppings of all sorts gave students extra energy. Pop and water was also provided for the parched dancers.
When the clock struck twelve students went home to change and returned within the hour for more fun and games at the After Prom. Fast food, pizza, and Subway sandwiches were there to replenish students for the long night ahead. In the gym, mini games gave students the opportunity to win prizes like fridges, flat screen televisions, pop, and candy, in periodical drawings. After an hour or so, students went to the theatre for more entertainment from a hypnotist. Almost twenty students put their fears aside and were hypnotized at their own free will. The hypnotist was a hit!
Around four a.m. students threw in the towel and went home to sleep the day away.
Prom is now over and the next and last high school event for seniors is graduation. The 2012-13 school year is coming to an end and summer is just around the corner, but students of AHS are not likely to forget their “Evening in Paris”.
