The Christmas spirit has descended upon Alliance High School and the season for giving has inspired AHS to give back to the community is by donating food for the local food pantries. Two AHS clubs have organized food drives for the less fortunate during Christmas.
The Health Professions Club will have their annual Christmas Food Drive from now until December 17. The food will be donated to help make Christmas baskets that will be given to local families. The food baskets will be assembled on December 18 and will be delivered sometime shortly after.
Students need to bring nonperishable food items such as cereal, macaroni and cheese, pasta noodles and pasta sauce, canned fruits and vegetables, and canned meats like tuna, salmon, or chicken. Monetary donations are also accepted. The drop-off locations for these food items include many of the science classrooms and, in the past, some of these teachers have offered extra credit to students for food items brought in.
The Alliance FFA will also be hosting their annual food drive that will run from now until December 21. The food collected for this food drive will be donated to Just Neighbors and will also be used to assemble Christmas food baskets. The baskets will be made on December 22.
Students should bring the same food items as for the Health Professions Club and this food drive is a challenge. The class, team, or organization with the most food items will win a pizza party provided by the FFA. For the past several years the girl’s basketball team has won this food drive, so get a group together and bring lots of canned food to compete with the ladies on the basketball team.
Spread the love this Christmas season and contribute to the community by bringing a non-perishable food item to donate to either of the food drives. The people who receive the food are thankful to have food to eat over Christmas, and you will have the warm fuzzy feeling for doing something kind.
