The students of Mrs. Vickie Joule’s AHS Botany class submitted entries to the Annual Natural Recourses District (NRD) poster contest and came away with two winners
Seventy students from across the panhandle entered a poster contest. The theme of the contest was “Soil to Spoon: Where does our food come from?” The rules allowed students to use any two dimensional media; markers, paint, colored pencils etc. The poster itself had to be between 8.5”x11” and 22”x28” and had to have been made by an individual student, not by a group of students. The posters also had to show a conservation message. Thirteen students from Mrs. Joule’s Botany class entered the contest.
Destini Fusselman, a senior, placed first and Connor Wright, a junior, placed second in the high school division of the state level competition. Destini won $100 from State and has advanced to Nationals; she should know within the next week or two if she won Nationals.
This was Mrs. Joule’s first year entering the contest. She entered only her Botany class because the class was studying soil at the time, and the topic of study went along with the theme for the contest.
Good job Destini and Conner and good luck to Destini at the National level of the competition.
The NRD is a program dedicated to the conservation of natural resources of Northwest Nebraska. Their responsibilities include anything from erosion prevention and control to solid waste disposal and drainage.
