The Alliance High School students are tired of standing in just a regular ole’ student section, yelling boring chants and not being that loud and, at some points, even sitting down.
At the volleyball district championship game Sidney’s student section showed up and owned the Alliance crowd. Not only were they dressed to match, but they had the best school spirit ever. They were organized and loud.
Junior volleyball player Sofi Fox commented about how the Sidney students got “in her head” when she was on the court by chanting, “To the window to the wall, we saw you shank that ball.”
Sidney was not even on their home court, but they took advantage of what they had: they had strong school spirit and an organized student section. Well, now Alliance High School is ready to get organized and be loud just like the Sidney Raiders!
I have put together a “theme calendar” and now each upcoming basketball game, home and away, has a different theme. We will black-out, wear red, white, and blue to “Merica night, wear crazy socks, and have dog pound night to raise school spirit and present a united front to the opposing team.
In the past Alliance High school has sold raffle tickets to win the “Best Seat in the House,” which means the winner gets to sit in a recliner during the game and eat free pizza. I hope to bring that tradition back not only to raise money to fund the student section, but to also get people excited for basketball games.
Most student athletes at Alliance High School leave everything they have on the court every single game, so as fans we can do no less.
I encourage students to come up with new, creative ideas for themes for the student section and to get the word out. The feeling of being cheered on at a game is amazing, so let’s cheer our athletes to victory! Welcome to the new student section at AHS!
