Last Friday, the Alliance Bulldogs faced off against the Lexington Minutemen in a hard fought battle for the Homecoming Football Game. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs came up short losing 7-31.

Head coach Chris Seebohm stated, “I think we did some great things. We unfortunately turned the ball over four times, and three of those were on our side of the field.” He continued saying, “Whenever you give a team the short side of the field it puts your defense in a bad position. We competed well, I think we could have won the game. It was just those mistakes that unfortunately cost us the game in the end.”

When asked what the team did best during this game, he remarked, “I thought our defense played the best they have played all season. Coach Kaiser had a great gameplan, and our guys were executing well. If they had to move the ball the whole length of the field they would have stalled out and had to punt to us.” According to Seebohm the team did struggle with a few things throughout the game.

Senior Isaiah Martinez led in stats on the defensive side of things with eight tackles, four of which were for loss. Offensively, senior Nathan Ackerman had 49 yards in catching three receptions.

“Anytime you do not have a win yet you focus on improving and obviously. Even if we would not have lost a game yet I would still say we need to improve in every position and continue to work on things individually,” Seebohm added.

The Bulldogs have had a tough season, going without a win so far, but Seebohm explained, “Everybody is worried about records and I can tell you I love the players that we have. They work every week, I don’t have to get on them. Even during Homecoming Week I never once had to tell them to focus.” He continued saying, “They have not been negative with each other or with me. They have continued to want to improve and I think it says a lot about them that they stay focused and continue to work despite all the adversity that we have had.”

The Spud would like to wish the Bulldog football team the best of luck in their final game of the season this Friday in McCook!
