For over a year now, people have been hearing rumors and talking about the Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao fight. Both fighters have been pushing it back due to training and whether or not they even want to fight each other. Both men being two of the most well known name’s in boxing, this fight is being called the most recent wonder of the world. The fight has been scheduled for May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

How this fight was even developed, was a complete coincidence. Pacquiao and Mayweather had both bought tickets to the Heat-Bucks game on January 27. Neither one of them knew that the other would be at the game. While sitting courtside at the game, they arranged to talk during halftime at center court. They exchanged phone numbers and shook hands. They continued to talk throughout the night and even met up after the game and discussed the fight at Pacquiao’s hotel suite. That night started the process in getting this fight together. It took almost a month of negotiations with representatives of both Mayweather and Pacquiao, as well as producers of HBO and Showtime to discuss who will co-produce the pay-per-view event. Getting both the boxers and television producers on board with the idea was very difficult, considering that Mayweather has bee under contract since 2013. This was going to cause problems due to the terms of his contract, finding ways to get it agreed with, the date had been set for the fight.

Earlier in the month, the former HBO Sports President Seth Abraham, predicted that the fight would never happen because of Mayweather’s reluctance to risk his perfect 47-0 record (26 KOs) against Pacquiao’s 52-5-2, (38 KOs), arguably being the most dangerous opponent that he would ever face. “I do not believe this fight will take place, now or ever. I don’t think Floyd wants it. I think he’s just having fun messing with everybody,” Abraham said. “Could it happen? Of course it could happen. But if I were at HBO, I’d be thinking about what fights could be made for Pacquiao as he heads off into the sunset, because I do not believe Mayweather will make this fight.”

The money for this fight would be a huge factor as well. Pacquiao could make $80 million and Mayweather could make a record $120 million, if the pay-per-view projections are realized. Whether the fight actually happens or not could very well depend on the money. Mayweather is the top paid and probably will be the highest paid athlete that ever was and will be. Affordability could the reason that the fight could be the determining reason for if the fight happens.
