Senior Devin Ushio wins his third place match at state his junior year.

On December 3, the Alliance Wrestling team had an inter-squad dual. Wrestlers for the Bulldogs had public wrestle offs, which is where two wrestlers of the same weight class battle to get the varsity spot. There can only be one wrestler in each weight class for varsity, but there can be more than one for junior varsity.

During this dual there was some moments of greatness. Jacob Baldwin did a fantastic job against Colton Coffee and kept the crowd cheering until the end of the match, even though he fell short of a victory within the final few seconds of the match. Freshman Bryant Wilson got the greatest win of the night in my opinion, beating sophomore Jeffrey Heusman by one point in the final thirty seconds leaving the crowd cheering. The season is already looking promising as the Bulldogs prepare for competition. This year we have two returning state medalists, senior Devin Ushio and junior Walker Johnson. As state placers they led us into the season with a great start. Junior DJ Weare said, “A start to a great season” when asked about the dual Tuesday night.

The varsity team is not set in stone, but Coach Travis Peak’s thoughts are Brendon Coward at 106, Cristian Hulsey at 113, Devin Ushio at 120, Daniel Hinijosa at 126, DJ Weare at 132, Walker Johnson at 138, James Long at 145, Bryant Wilson at 152, Cameron Nagaki at 160, Kenny Mekelon at 170, Colton Coffee at 182, open at 195, Donald Rednest at 220, and Moses Ash at heavy weight. This season there are some great wrestlers and everyone is anxious on how the season will turn out. This season we have six out of fourteen returning varsity wrestlers with this line up.
