The music scene has reached a conclusion for 2013, and I am more than happy to say that. The most ecstatic feeling to some is the ability to create something new, which is music. They brought a deceased automatic machine to life, and crafted chords to fit their vocals while recording in a hollowed area free from rival vibrations, creating different ranges of sound. The music scene of 2013 has had its ups and downs, and I am upset to say that there has truly been no absolutely huge album to come out in 2013. This year has been more of a decrease to a particularly unique scene created in 2010 with the up rise of certain artists, but there have been some specific artists that have stood out from the rest.

Some of the best tracks of the year are unnoticed by the mainstream media, but this review is for anybody who is willing to listen to music without criticizing the amount of popularity involved, and by listening, you will discover different aspects within the music industry.

First of all, I think some of the best tracks are confusing, unique, and even odd. One track that stood out greatly was “ODB” by Danny Brown. The track was not featured on his album, but it was considered great to some, but awful to others. The beat to the track is incredible and strangely psychedelic from start to finish. Many people refused to listen to the track because of Danny Brown’s high and whiny voice and his outrageously disturbing lyricism.

Another track that was great was “Nakamarra” by Hiatus Kaiyote, a soulful group from Melbourne Australia. Many critics believe that they will be the group to bring soul back, and with “Nakamarra” they have definitely invented a catchy style. The keys are incredible and the entire instrumental fits well with great vocals that you can drift away in.

Finally, the best track of 2013 goes to Chance the Rapper’s “Juice.” The track is catchy, exciting, and unique. His style of lyricism stands out from any other Hip Hop artist, and he is rapidly getting known in the music industry. He’s already been asked to join many huge record labels, but has denied all of them. “Juice” is great from start to finish. The way he approaches the track is influential to many upcoming artists, and he will be known widely in a short time span.

The albums of 2013 haven’t been as great as I have anticipated them to be. Certain albums stood out, but this simply hasn’t been the year for a full amazing album. I believe that the best project of 2013 is “Better Off Dead” by the Flatbush Zombies, a group with odd yet unique individuals. The members who seem to be the most strange and ecstatic are Meech and Juice. Their delivery is fantastic along with their underground influenced lyricism. The technique the Flatbush Zombies use in their word play is great, and the way they approach performing is different and catchy. The producer for the Flatbush Zombies, Erick Ark Elliot, simply created some of the best beats to come out this year. Some of the best tracks on this project are “Bliss,” “Death,” “Regular and Complex,” and the popular hit, “MRAZ.”

There has been other great projects in 2013, specifically the uprising “Acid Rap” from Chance the Rapper, which was considered purely the best mix tape of the year by Rolling Stone. I consider this to be an amazing mix tape, but if I was to give a complex review from the quality and excellence track to track, “Better Off Dead” is still the best.

The year is over, and so is the music of 2013. I believe that 2014 will be a better year, with more highly anticipated albums to be released, but we will have to wait to find out.
