The Gaming Club
There is a new club at Alliance High School: the Gaming Club. This club gives kids who like to play video games and who want to get involved the chance. The club is welcome to anyone who wants to join. Mr. Allison, the advisor for the Gaming Club said, “Gaming Club is mostly a social club for friendly video game competition between students at the high school. In the future, Mr. Lanik and I are hoping to add competition with other schools for those who are interested.” Anyone can join and participate if they want because there are no practices or requirements.
The games they play are decided by student vote. According to Mr. Allison, “For in-person competitions they’ve decided on Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Splatoon so far. For the game of the month it will be games that students can play on the school computers so we know everyone is able to play.” Students meet up for the in-person tournaments once a month. The gatherings are flexible and depend on everyone’s schedule. Jaxon Bair is in charge of the rules and brackets to keep it fair.
This month’s tournament is Pacman, and Mr. Crile, AHS math teacher, is in the lead. For the game of the month, students play on their own time and submit their scores. Mr. Allison noted, “The top score overall is Mr. Crile with 102,890. However, only an eligible student can win. Right now Carson Cottrell is leading with 60,900.”
Mr. Lanik is an advisor with Mr. Allison. They coordinate when the tournaments are. Several students bring gaming consoles that everyone can use. The games are held in Mrs. Harris’s room, and her monitors are available to play on.
The Gaming Club started when Mr. Lanik and Abe DeLaO began playing Smash Bros at lunch. Mr. Allison said that they asked him and a few other students if they would like to join and have a tournament over lunch. It was a lot of fun, so they decided to expand it to be what it is now, the Gaming Club.
Monday, November 4 is the next meet up, where they will be playing Mario Kart. Here is a link that lists all the scoreboards and additional information: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ooF8VrMrK6-bXxRRKhZVhTTdURtdRsZl4B2QPh59Pfc/edit?usp=sharing
