The Alliance High School choir held an awards concert on Monday, May 8. This performance, directed by Christina Kloch and accompanied by volunteer pianist, Cynthia Horn, was the final high school choir show of the school year.

Seniors who participated in the show were given the opportunity to perform their own solos. Soloists included Peyton Stoike, sang “Road Less Traveled” by Lauren Alaina, Kiara Long who sang “Read All About It” by Emeli Sande, Trajan Garcia, performed “My Shot” from the musical Hamilton, featuring Tristan Bleisch, Tyler Girard, Dylan Peterson, and Tyler Boyer, Elora Bleisch, both sang ‘Scarborough Fair’ while accompanying herself with the cello, Thalia Hinojosa, sang ‘When We Were Young’ by Adele, and finally, Jazlyn Garza, performed ‘Don’t Forget to Remember Me’. All  these soloists beautifully distributed their own vocal pieces.

During this awards concert, two students from each class were selected and given playful rewards, due to their hard work, acts of leadership, and their general character throughout the school year. The awards given were MVP and Most Congenial. Each class, (Harmonics, Velocity and Mixed choir) had a pair of winners. The award for MVP was given to Peyton Stoike from Harmonics, Darian Wilson from Velocity, and Jazlyn Garza from mixed choir. Each student received a can of silly string for this reward. The award for Most Congenial was given to Grace Tolstedt from Harmonics, Aubrey Garrett from Velocity, and Liz Johnson from mixed choir. These students were each presented with a bunny-eared headband for the Most Congenial award.

Harmonics performed ‘Imagine’ written by John Lennon, Velocity performed ‘Million Reasons’ by Lady Gaga. The mixed choir performed ‘Viva La Vida’ by Coldplay. The final performance of the evening ‘Lean On Me’ by Bill Withers, was sang by all the choirs combined.

McKinley Schwartz, a member of the AHS mixed choir, says she feels “happy to have been part of choir this year as she was able to branch out and sing with little fear blocking her way.”

“I have learned so much about music this year. I felt happy that I could let out my voice and not be so shy about it. To any future choir members, I would like to say that you should all follow your dreams and expand your learning of music. Try out for whatever vocal class you can once you hit high school. It will be worth it” McKinley added.

All in all, it would be fair to say that this concert was an enjoyable experience and a great closing of the school year.
