Located on 615 west third right next to Git-N-Split, Minion Games hosted another pre-release for the card game Magic: The Gathering. The event, which profits around $1,300 for the store, was based on the games next block. A block is any part of the game that has a real name, Theros.

The game itself has been running for about 20 years and started with a small company called Alpha and Beta. Wizards of the Coast recently bought it and with 6 core sets as of now and numerous blocks, blocks being put out every 9 months.

Magic is a standalone game, has a set of strict rules that doesn’t allow any other cards or other rules, and includes cards that can go out of date, but also has certain decks or cards that continue past the new core sets and that are not banned. These cards or decks go for around $3,000 to $7,000.

The most sold item for the store, which were the only items the players were able to buy during the event, were the pre-release packs and had a few booster packs inside to help you build your deck and choose which of the 5 colors you want base the deck off of.           The purpose of the pre-release is to preview the set before it hits the stores, but the cards cannot be used or bought until the release date. The unfortunate part for the store is that each event they hold of this genre costs more money than they make from actually holding it, but they hold the event for the players to have fun and just enjoy the game.

With the addition of new card types, Theros should be a great start to the M14 core set and we should expect even greater blocks, cards, and accessories.
