Ms. McMillian is Geometry teacher at Alliance High School. You’re probably asking yourself, why Alliance High School? Well, it’s simple, a friend mentioned that she should try working at Alliance High School because it was a lot of fun, and so McMillian decided to do so. She chose to become a teacher because she was a social worker, and when she visited a school the staff all inspired her to become a teacher. At first, this is not what she had in mind to do. A superintendent basically pushed McMillian to become a teacher because they said that, “She had it.” It took Ms. McMillian a year to make up her mind and start her teaching career. While Ms. McMillian is a math teacher working at a high school, don’t assume that math was her strongest subject in school, in fact, it wasn’t. Ms. McMillian struggled with math in high school and her own teacher said that she wasn’t any good at the subject. Now, look at her. She’s a math teacher and she loves math. Ms. McMillian came from a family with a single mother, and growing up, her and her family didn’t have much money. In her high school years, she got a job and she earned money to buy the right clothes. Ms. McMillian basically worked hard to earn everything she has today. She also believes that if you have the right work ethic, you can accomplish anything in life. Ms. McMillian is extremely excited for this upcoming school year because it’s something entirely new. She wants to be able to inspire her students to do better in school, make them to actually want to try and succeed. You could say that her favorite part of teaching here at Alliance High School is getting to know her students, saying that, “they’re a lot of fun!” Ms. McMillian has been teaching for at least fourteen years, and last year she worked at Alliance Middle School. Ms. McMillian also taught at Oelrichs’ School and Crazy Horse School. She worked at Crazy Horse School in Rapid City, SD, for seven years. Ms. McMillian also mention her love for teaching and how her favorite aspect of teaching is when the light bulb comes down on the student and you physically see it, meanwhile, her least favorite aspect of teaching is not getting to know her students. She also mentioned that she wouldn’t be anywhere else other than being a teacher here at Alliance High Schools. “Students, don’t ever let anyone tell you can’t do something and always work hard!”
