2015 Met Gala

Every year, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art lights up with movie stars and fashion icons alike. The Met Gala is a yearly celebration of the history of high fashion, as well as a showcase of modern-day designs. Each event has a theme; this year’s theme was “China: Through the Looking Glass.”

While some decided to go the traditional route and wear kimonos, others figured wearing ridiculous headdresses would give the same effect. Among those who favored an intricate headpiece was Sarah Jessica Parker. Her red, tasseled headwear has sparked endless memes on the Internet, with twitter users likening her to the fire emoji and the Heat Miser.

Other notable fashion fails include the yellow Guo Pei gown worn by Rihanna. The fur-trimmed cape trailed at least ten feet behind her, giving the Internet room to Photoshop omelet fillings and pizza toppings onto her dress, as well as shrink her and place her under an egg being cracked into the bowl below it.

Not all the stars that attended the Gala were fashion flops. Zhang Ziyi wore a beautiful Chinese-inspired Carolina Herrera dress with jeweled flowers around the neckline. British model Cara Delevigne, famous for her eyebrows, wore a black Stella McCartney jumpsuit along with bold temporary tattoos of oriental flowers. Beyoncé, clad in a Givenchy Haute Couture custom dress, was the star of the whole event. Let’s be honest, when isn’t she?

In addition to showcasing one of a kind designs, the 2015 Met Gala was the subject of a documentary by director Andrew Rossi. No one in attendance was allowed to use social media during the event, as 225 approved photographers, reporters, and social media moguls were documenting it.

In addition to the editor of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour, every Met Gala has co-chairs. This year’s co-chairs were Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, Chinese actress Gong Li, President and CEO of Yahoo! Marissa Meyer, and businesswoman Wendi Murdoch.
