A Holiday Showcase

A+Holiday+Showcase

On Saturday, December 14, 2013 a holiday showcase was held in the PAC at 7:00 P.M.. The showcase consisted of a variety of performers from our community that agreed to preform to help raise money for the backpack program. The backpack program is when “people volunteer to fill grocery bags with food to give a child every weekend.  The school counselors decide which kids need help, and their parents sign a permission slip so they can participate in the program,” says Mrs. Barbie Beck, the coordinator of the showcase. The goal of the backpack program is to give “less fortunate children all the help and attention we can give them so they have a fair shot at a good life, and so they grow up to appreciate what they have,” adds Beck.

Some of the performers that agreed to preform on Saturday night were Laura Higgins, Megan Seely, the Alliance High School show choir, 7th street dances studio, Dan Marquez, A.J. Maser, Jon Marquez, and many more! “We had all sorts of performances tonight, singing, dancing, acting, playing instruments; it was an amazing show!!,” says Beck. Not only did this holiday showcase benefit the community by helping those in need but also gave all the wonderful performers a chance to show the community what they can do.

On Saturday night $1,500.00 dollars was raised to help the backpack program which is currently supporting 132 kids, with numbers still increasing. With $1,500.00 dollars raised that should be enough to fill about 250 bags of food for the program. Some of the food that fills the bags are mac and cheese, oatmeal, ramen noodles, and juice boxes. The show on Saturday night was such a success that they are going to try to do something each year to help benefit our community’s youth.
