Disney Stars: The Pressures
Disney stars have always been a part of today’s highschool students lives since they were very little. We remember seeing them on our favorite TV shows and wanting to be like them when we got older. However, we never came to wonder how life was for them while they were on Disney and how big their change had to be in order to break from the Disney world.
Disney stars grew up with a lot of pressure. They had to keep the clean image for those who were watching them. Of course, most of who watched theses stars were younger kids, and they did not want to influence kids into the wrong things. A few examples of Disney stars that we grew up with were, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Emily Osment and so many others.
Selena Gomez was one of the most famous Disney stars. She was a big role model to many little girls. However, in 2012, she broke out of her Disney shell and starred in movies such as Spring Breakers which also included another Disney star, Vanessa Hudgens, who was a protagonist in the hit series of High School Musical. Selena went to rehab several times and she was in multiple news controversies. However, she still kept her class and and always tried to be a great role model to all her fans.
Miley Cyrus, was on the hit Disney show Hannah Montana. In the show she played both Hannah Montana and Miley Stewart. Miley Cyrus, by far, was and still is one of the most controversial Disney stars. In 2013, she came out with her new song “We Can’t Stop.” The music video was very racy and took a lot of people by surprise. It was of course very shocking, because Miley had never shown this side of her before. As time went by, Miley was known for using drugs and smoking; and she was very vocal about it. She broke out of her Disney phase with her “Bangerz” album. She also showed her new self in the 2013 VMA performance with Robin Thicke. However, Miley Cyrus has stated that she has gotten better. She settled down and her music got a lot more calm. She says that she was just trying to her find herself, and trying to get away from Hannah Montana.
To many students today, Disney stars have influenced us a lot. Tabi Stanec, a Junior, and a student who has grown up with Disney, says that she does think that “some Disney stars took a wrong path growing up because they had to be these perfect little angels.” She also says they seemed to have a lot of pressure growing up in the public eye and on the Disney platform. She wishes that everything on Disney was like how it used to be, because we’ve definitely seen them grow right in front of us.
Now that Disney is different, and all the stars we’ve grown up with have chosen different routes, we can see that they have always been something other than just “Disney stars.” They are now sticking to what they’ve always wanted to do outside of Disney.
