If you’ve been to any home football games this year, you’ve probably seen the newest additions to the stadium walls. Around mid- August, our superintendent, Dr. Unzicker approached Alliance High art teacher, Ms. Underwood, during the first week of school and asked if she would add some designs to the plain blue walls surrounding the stadium bleachers. Ms. Underwood accepted the opportunity, without hesitation, as the stadium hadn’t been redecorated in over 30 years.

Dr. Unzicker requested that the original bulldog and block letters were incorporated into the Press Box area. He wanted the Dawg Pound to be created by the students to make it their own. Ms. Underwood held a competition between the students of her seventh period ceramics class, where they sketched out ideas for the Dawg Pound and the best design would be the one that was painted.

After all of the designs were finished, Ms. Underwood delivered the sketches to Dr. Unzicker and he, along with Mr. Bailey, picked the winning design, which was created by Shae Toof, Mariah Stewart, Marque Crowe and Madison Stark. When the winning design was announced in class, the girls were quick to tweak some minor details and were soon after ready to get to work. In following weeks, she brought her class out to the stadium to get to work. Ms. Underwood’s 7th period worked all period for a month and a half, but some minor finishing details are still to be added, waiting on warmer weather, so keep your eye out for more.
