Students at AHS get Published

McKenna Romick, Staff Writer

Nineteen students at Alliance High School have had the exciting opportunity to be published in the Creative Communication, although only 18 took this opportunity. The Creative Communication is a celebration of today’s writers. From freshmen through seniors, around 39,0000 entries are submitted from all over.

To be submitted, the students have to be a part of a creative writing class in their high school. Alliance High has four levels of creative writing taught by Ms. Smith. The four levels have different points. Creative Writing I shows students the many different forms of poetry. These students are given a choice of what poem style they like and take that style to create a poem of their own. Creative writing II follows the book “8 to Great” for something to base their writing around, plus teach the students to be the best person they can be. Then creative writing III and IV are students choice of writing. Students work independently with some guidelines that have to be approved by Ms. Smith. All these courses have some things in common such as student’s in all courses use their own lives to write about. “The good, the bad- whatever they have been through that makes them who they are today.” Says Ms. Smith. They also write about what they want for their future.

The eighteen students who are getting published are from all different grades and classes. Starting with two freshmen; Safyre Yearling and Hanna Ross. Four sophomores; Trajan Garcia, Teja Martin, Shayla Prince, and Rhegan Fritzler. Five juniors; Renae Zeigler, Emmanuel Cabello, Alexandra Stich, Brittany Lewis, and Margaret Otto. Margaret said, “ I never imagined myself in a class like creative writing but I have really enjoyed it.” Then six seniors; Samantha Minich, Makylee Kaping, Crina Mamaliga, Ashton Ellis, Amanda Lower, and Aaliyah Dunn.

Ms. Smith has been teaching creative writing for fourteen years at Alliance High School. She took over what the previous teachers had started and created creative writing. She said, “I am very proud of these students for putting their words on a page. It is wonderful that they won this honor as it means they are published authors.” Congrats to all the students getting published!
