FFA Students Going to Washington DC

FFA Students Going to Washington DC

This summer two Alliance High School students, Brent Thomas and Cody Henderson, will be headed to Washington D.C. for a Leadership Conference. The Conference is five days long and FFA members from all over the country get the opportunity to attend informational sessions so they can bring back what knowledge they gain to their local areas. The two Alliance students plan to attend sessions that specifically focus on leadership hoping to gain individual skills in how they can become leaders.

Brent Thomas is being awarded with a scholarship to attend the conference. Sally Henderson with the Alliance FFA Alumni chapter says that scholarships for the WLC are presented at the state FFA Alumni convention. Scholarship recipients are usually announced at the FFA banquet. Henderson said this year it was moved up to allow the students an easier time in registering for sessions that might fill up later.

Cody Henderson told Alliance Times Herald that it was pretty cool he would be attending, as both of his sisters have had the same opportunity in previous years.  The Leadership Conference will positively affect both of the young Alliance High School students. During the five day event, attendees will learn how to become effective leaders by teaching them to know their purpose, value people, take action, and serve others. FFA members leave WLC with the knowledge and the confidence to act in ways that help their schools, community, and their country.
