Do We Do Enough?

Homecoming is a time of excitement and enthusiasm. When I take a step back and look at our homecoming, not very many students get excited for homecoming. Is it because the theme isn’t that exciting? Is it because the dress up day’s aren’t good ideas? Or is it because homecoming is the same every year?

In an Interview with Dr. Jones I asked him, “What do you think Alliance High School could do to make homecoming more exciting?” He responded, “ I think that the people that do the planning need to reach out to more students to come to the football game and come to the dance.” Dr. Jones also thinks that we should try a knowledge bowl for homecoming for those students who don’t want to participate in the physical activities.  Mr. Wallace said, “They do a good job with changing activities up every year. Maybe they should ask students what they like best and go with those ideas.”

Coming from my perspective, I think that homecoming should be more exciting for all students and not just a percentage of students. The class floats for the parade should have more time spent on decorating them along with the hallways.  I think homecoming is a time to bring our school together and everyone be proud of what our school is about. I don’t see a lot of participation going on in our school for a lot of the students, me being one of those students. I think that our theme and our dress up days aren’t that exciting, it’s not really anything that gets students pumped up about homecoming. Another thing is that for homecoming royalty it never changes, it’s usually the same people every year that get nominated to be a runner up for homecoming king and queen. To change things up maybe students should have to run for homecoming queen and king give it more of a challenge.

Mrs. Smith is excited about homecoming this year and excited that the parade is going to be a lot nicer. She hopes that everyone’s floats and class hallways look good this year. She mentioned that there will be a 1st, 2nd,  and 3rd place prize for the float competition. So do the best on decorating your float and you could win something! I asked her ”Do you think that students should spend more time decorating the halls in the school?” She said, “Yes. I hope this year the advisors of each group work with a certain few for those who want to decorate. It adds to the school spirit.”

I talked to some of the students around Alliance High School and most of them said homecoming was fun but they wish more people would participate in the activities and that they got more of a say in what goes on during homecoming as a student body. Lindsay Swartz said, “We should do like a minute to win it game so more students would get the opportunity to participate. Or do the games that we use to do for homecoming outside” Bekah Barber said, “They should try something like a talent show.” That would make homecoming more fun for everyone.  Students of Alliance High School are encouraged to dress up and participate in the activities that go on during homecoming week and have a good time!
