Aftershock 2018
Summer is right around the corner and that means summer softball. The traveling softball team, Aftershock, is preparing for the upcoming summer season. Brian and Trish Johnston are coaching once again and are ready to support a hardworking and bubbly team.
This year there are 17 girls on the roster. All these of girls have worked hard in offseason over the cold winter, so they are ready to take home championships. There are five tournaments this year which is about 25 games, depending on how the team does during pool play which then leads to elimination day.
Brian has been helping with the Aftershock softball team for quite some time. He was the assistant coach in 2015 and for the next three years after that, he has been the head coach. While interviewing Brian I asked him why he liked coaching the game of softball, he explained, “Coaching is more about developing relationships with players. So while it’s fun to teach the skills, it’s even more fun to be out with the kids and teaching them things that might help them in the future.” The girls softball team loves Brian being the coach. I think one reason why he’s a good coach is that he is good with dealing with girls’ attitude. As the practices are early and everyone is tired from weights, the team can sometimes get a little snotty and hard to deal with, but this team is a force to be reckoned with.
Overall, softball is a fun and exciting game to play and to watch. It takes time and hard work to be the best you can be. The Alliance Aftershock team has everything they need to be able to win every game wherever their cleats land on the dirt. “You have to have a little swagger, good work ethic, a great attitude, and be coachable. You have to buy in to what you’re being taught and work at it to be a good softball player,” Coach Brian states. To all our fans out there, be ready for an amazing summer of softball!
