Alliance Wrestlers Down Torrington at Last Home Dual
At 6 pm on Tuesday, January 31, the Alliance wrestlers took on the Torrington Blazers in their last home dual of the season.
The Alliance wrestling seniors were recognized before the varsity dual began. The 2017 graduating wrestlers are Rey Valdez, Danny Vallejo, Tyler Trout, Travis Rebillet, Bryant Wilson, Ty Redecker, and Lane Lauder.
The night started off with eight JV wrestlers. Five of which found success in our favor with pins.
The varsity wrestlers began with a loss of 3-7 from Braydon “Boone” Wilson (132) against Austin Fox.
Jorgen Johnson wrestled next, in the 138 weight class. He took an 8-0 win against Torrington’s Jacob Polkowske.
Rey Valdez pinned Matthew Garcia in two minutes and forty-nine seconds in the 145 weight class. Recently recovered from a torn ACL, this pin hyped the crowd up very quickly. Rey went through surgery and many months of physical therapy.
“Getting back into the groove of things was difficult at first, but things are finally starting to fall into place. I felt excited and emotional at the same time when I won my match during my last home dual ever,” stated Rey Valdez.
Danny Vallejo, Bryant “Buster”
Wilson, and Lane Lauder won their matches with pins over the Blazers.
Ty Redecker (182) took a 3-0 win over Torrington’s Ryan Walson.
Alliance took a forfeit in the 195 weight class. Nathan Lauder and Evan Steggs won with a forfeit from Torrington.
Alliance took home another win, 49-18 against the Torrington Blazers, continuing their undefeated dual streak of 18-0.
The Alliance wrestlers will be traveling to Yoder, Wyoming, for their last regular season tournament. Districts will be held in McCook, Nebraska, on February 10th and 11th. State wrestling will follow the next weekend, February 16th through the 18th at the Century Link Center in Omaha.
Good luck all of the wrestlers! Stay tuned for more results at ahsthespud.com.
