Wrestling Takes Huge Win Over Cardinals
At 6pm on Thursday, January 5, the Alliance wrestling team took on the Chadron Cardinals in a dual, just before they head to Douglas, WY to compete this weekend.
The dual started off with our only JV wrestler of the night, Waylon Cash. Cash took a 8-7 loss against Chadron’s Dowing.
The varsity wrestlers began with a 6-0 win from Danny Vallejo (160) against Riesen from Chadron.
Bryant “Buster” Wilson wrestled next in the 170 weight class. Wilson pinned Chadron’s Fernau in 3 minutes and 29 seconds.
Ty Redecker (182) brought home the third win for the bulldogs, with a 9-5 victory over Cattin.
Baily Hood (195), Lane Lauder (220), Nathan Lauder (285), and Evan Steggs (113) all earned six points for Alliance, Chadron not having any wrestler in these weight classes, leaving them open. The next wrestler for Alliance was Bradan Seidler (120), taking an 11-3 win over Chadron’s Fox.
Kysen Harris (126) also brought in points for Alliance, being open. Braydon “Boone” Wilson (132) took one of the two losses, losing by a 18-1 tech fall against Ritzen.
Jorgen Johnson (138), taking home one of the two pins, pinned Chadron’s Andres in 44 seconds.
At 145 Lane Applegarth finished with a 5-3 win over Lemmon.
The second of loss of the night came with Erik Elford (152) losing 12-4 against Chadron’s Swanson.
The Alliance wrestling team took home the overall team score against Chadron, 55-9. The bulldogs had an overall great night and even greater matches. Senior, Buster Wilson, commented on the season, “We started kind of slow with missing a couple of tournaments due to weather, but I think we are still on track to accomplish all of our goals for this season. Personally, I started the season strong and I hope to just keep building on that. Just trying to work on the little things and improve myself every match.” The wrestlers are looking at a great season already, and a great one ahead!
