Lady Bulldogs End Season At Districts

Sidney defeats Alliance in the second round to advance to Friday’s championship game

The Alliance High girl’s basketball team finished the season in the second round of the District B-6 competition on Thursday as the Bulldogs were defeated by the Sidney Red Raiders 36-48. To get to the second round, however, the Bulldogs did overcome the Scottsbluff Bearcats 59-53 backed by a 19-point performance from junior Kenzie Brennan.

In the first round of districts on Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs faced off against the fifth-seeded Scottsbluff Bearcats. The Bulldogs headed into halftime with a 29-24 lead, but the Bearcats would manage to cut the lead to one-point, 40-39, with one quarter to play. The game was tied with 1:15 at 51 to play when sophomore Madison Reiber nailed two free throws to give the Bulldogs the lead. From there, defensive stops and made free throws contributed to the Bulldog’s six-point victory to advance to the second round. Brennan finished the game with 19 points, junior Kennedy Cyza would put in 15, and senior Rylee Trout would contribute with 14.

In the second round game, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves tied at eight points with the top seeded Red Raiders after one quarter. Sidney, however, would make a run to begin the second as they jumped out to a 16-8 lead with 6:15 to play until halftime. The Lady Bulldogs were able to slow down the Red Raider offense for the remainder of the second period, but Sidney held on to a 23-14 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs were able to cut Sidney’s lead to eight points with one quarter remaining, but the Red Raiders continued to flourish as they ended up winning the game 48-36. With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs finish their season with a 5-17 record.
