Olympic Slopestyle Competition
The Winter Olympics this year have added a new event in snowboarding. Snowboarding was the first event to kick off the Olympics this year due to the attraction and the excitement it brings with its fans. This event is known as Slopestyle. The event starts with a set of rails and then leads to a variety of different ramps and jumps to go off of.
Jamie Anderson was the first gold medalist representing the United States with a near flawless run. “I was really just trying to stay calm and kind of reserve my energy,” Anderson said.
Reporters stated she made history with ease as other competitors struggled to find enough airtime to provide enough spins and grabs that were necessary to impress the judges. “She does whatever she has to win. She never cracks under pressure. She uses it. She lands,” said American teammate Karly Shorr.
Slopestyle was added to the Olympics to make more excitement other than just the ordinary half pipe that was generally used for the competitors. It is an event where you attempt to do the most difficult tricks after going of an assorted number of jumps.
You want to get as high as you can and get the most spins, grabs and combos you can. You want to do a variety of tricks rather than just one trick throughout your run. It is like a downhill but adds rails and jumps for the extra excitement.
They judge based on how perfect or flawless your run is also each trick has its own individual scoring value. Skiing and snowboarding are the most common for this type of event.
