The Bulldog girl’s basketball team had their first round of District play Tuesday night, February 19. The girls traveled to Scottsbluff and played the Bearcats, whom they lead the entire game, and triumphed with a final score of 57-40. Head Coach Nate Lanik said this was exactly what the girls needed to start the post season. “Getting this win will, hopefully, propel us through the rest of the week and into next week.” Senior Andri Halouska said, “It was great to have a win over Scottsbluff.” The Bulldogs had a 3-0 record against Scottsbluff.
The girls traveled back to Scottsbluff on Thursday, February 21, to take on the McCook Bison, a team they had faced before but had never defeated. Before the game, Coach Lanik said, “I think this game will be very competitive. We played them tough the first time we faced them this season. We were unable to win early this season, but with a modified game plan and a better sense of what they are going to try to do, hopefully, this time it will be out time to come out on top. “
The girls played a tough game but lost 66-46. Despite the season-ending loss, senior Morgan Anthony had some good words about the whole season, “This season was by far the best season we’ve had. I wouldn’t trade my teammates or coaches for anything in the world. If a couple of shots would have fell, the outcome would have been different but as a senior, this season was a perfect way to end it all for me.”
Coach Lanik said, ‘The entire season was good, we may not of had the record that we were hoping for, nor the ending of the season that we wanted, but we battled the entire season. I am extremely proud of the girls and their efforts this year.”
Lanik also wanted to thank the loyal fans and supporters who followed the girls the entire season. He also added, “Next season begins now. We have to get in the gym and get better.”
As the season ends the Lady Dogs lose seniors, Andri Halouska, Morgan Anthony, Danielle Brennan, Shae Brennan, and Olivia Vogel. Juniors Sofi Fox, Gabby Conley, Brianna Ridenour, Joise Seidler, Caitlyn Tritle, Rylee Trout, and Ashley Trout will need to step up and take their places in the 2013-2014 year.
