The Alliance High Girls Golf team teed off their 2012 season on August 16, at the Scottsbluff Quad at Riverview Golf Course. Scottsbluff, Bridgeport, Chadron and Alliance competed in this year’s event. Seniors Danielle Brennan and Ashtyn Shrewsbury both placed in the top-10 with Brennan carding a 48 for 7th place, and Shrewsbury carding a 54 for a tie for 9th place. AHS Golf Coach Nate Lanik said it was a good start to the season. “We had some shots and holes that were excellent and we had some shots and holes that were not so great,” Lanik added.
The Bulldogs next competition was held at the Western Conference Invite on August 25, in Sidney NE. Brennan carded the only top-10 for the Bulldogs shooting a 97 for 9th place. “Danielle did a good job of managing the course,” said Lanik. “She struggled on the green with her putting, but she competed and found a way to finish in the top ten.” Shrewsbury finished 15th with a 100. Lanik stated that Shrewsbury should have been able to card a top ten if she would have elimated her penalty strokes. Gering won the team event by shooting a team score of 370, and Gering’s Kaitlyn Krzynowski was the top medalist with an 81.
The next meet for the girls will be at Chadron on September 4.
