The Alliance Bulldogs football team took the field this past Friday night against the Sidney Red Raiders. The Bulldogs dropped the Red Raiders 46-20, boosting their season record to 5-2 and earning a 1-0 record in district play, while Sidney drops to 1-6.
The Bulldogs were led by junior running back Mitch Pancost, who rush the ball 20 times for 239 yards. Senior tailback Kyle Sanders put up eight carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns; and Sophomore quarterback Josh Matulka made his first start at quarterback, passing for 42 yards.
The Bulldogs started off well, holding a 6-0 lead after a 1 yard run by Pancost and a failed two-point conversion attempt.
The Red Raiders took over the lead at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, after a 65 yard run by Andrew Jacobson and added the point-after to make the score 7-6. On the following possession, Sanders rushed for a 25 yard touchdown and added on a two-point conversion after a pass from Matulka to take a 14-7 lead. Sidney quarterback Paxton Ehler scored on a 1 yard quarterback sneak and Jacobsen added on the extra point to tie the game at 14-14. On the first play of the next possession for the Bulldogs, Pancost ran for 55 yards and Matulka added on the point-after to put the Bulldogs up 21-14 at halftime.
On the first possession of the second-half for the Bulldogs, it again only took Pancost one play to find the end-zone, and Matulka added the kick to take a 28-14 lead. The Bulldogs put up another 15 points in the 3rd quarter to take a commanding 43-14 lead.
Sidney would score once more in the 4th quarter and the Bulldogs would add on a field goal to prevail 46-20 over the Red Raiders.
This week the Bulldogs will take travel to take on the Gering Bulldogs this Friday night at 7:00.
