Should AHS have a Halloween Dance?

Should+AHS+have+a+Halloween+Dance%3F

Alliance High School has two dances every year, Prom and Homecoming. Prom is only for juniors and seniors while Homecoming is for everyone. A Halloween dance would be an extra opportunity for the lower classmen to have another chance at a dance and an excuse to wear Halloween costumes. I sent out a google form to all the students in our high school, asking if we should have a halloween dance and why. Their answers did not disappoint, many yes or no’s popped up with great opinions!

When it comes to the yes side of the dance, many people had awesome opinions and good points. An anonymous person said yes, “So people can have something to look forward to.” Brooklynn Smith commented, “Halloween is the one day of the year teenagers aren’t really allowed to go out and participate. Having a school dance would help beat the boredom people have during Halloween.” I had lots of people say that it would be fun and exciting. Aidan Derby said, “Nothing wrong with high school students having a dance, it’s better using the time than just standing around doing nothing.” Many people also stated that it would be fun to see everyone’s different costumes and how cool it would be to dress up. Arayah Cordell told me, “I think it would be fun but we should start it next year because some people may not have costumes yet. And of course school appropriate costumes” This shows many kids are passionate and excited to see more changes in our school.

Then you have the no side of things, a lot of kids had amazing opinions and good points. An anonymous person stated, “Having a dance in winter would be better because the spacing from the recent dance would be more ideal. Having homecoming in fall and then another one in fall seems worse than having another one later in winter. Having a winter dance would split the dances up between both first semester seasons. Plus, having a dance later in winter would allow for more planning time, such as discussing advertisements and fundraising.” Many people were worried about our schools not having the funds or the fact Halloween is almost right after the Homecoming dance. Someone mentioned that their family doesn’t celebrate Halloween, which some people don’t. I had an anonymous state, “It’s a good idea, but I think it would run into homecoming time of the year, and it would take more money out of classes for decorations and ect. I think halloween is better celebrated with friends outside of school, and not having a school dance/party. Mini class celebrations are better in my opinion.”

As you can see, many opinions popped up at the mention of a halloween dance. Some are for the dance and some are against the dance, the question is should we go to Stein about this or use it on something more important than this?
