An autopsy showed that two preschoolers found in a rented storage unit died of “ongoing physical abuse,” authorities in Monterey County, California, said at a press conference.

The children who were found in Monterey County, California have been identified as Delylah Tara, 3, and her brother, Shaun Tara, 6. Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin stated that both children were stuffed into a plastic storage bin.

Tami Joy Huntsman, 39, will be charged with murder in the deaths, as will Gonzalo Curiel, 17, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo said.

He said murder warrants may be filed as early as Friday and he might seek the death penalty.

Investigators are still investigating the relationships among the people involved in the deaths of the two children.

Along with the two children, a 9-year-old girl found battered and malnourished inside an SUV, McMillin said. According to The Plumas News, the girl weighed about 40 pounds, had open sores, lice, broken bones and missing teeth, the sheriff said. The young girl was taken into protective custody and is receiving medical care in a Sacramento hospital.

It is not known if Huntsman had legal custody or not; however, it is known that Huntsman is the biological mother to 12-year-old twins who were put in foster care after the incident, and possibly an older teenager.

Huntsman and Curiel were arrested and charged with torture and felony child abuse.
