Three of the most popular YouTube Awards’ nominees.

YouTube superstars had the chance to step out from behind their computers and  be awarded for hard work and dedication. The very first YouTube awards were held at Pier 26 in New York City, on Sunday night and made big history. Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts hosted the first YouTube awards. The YouTube awards were a very exciting night, with live performances by Lady Gaga, Eminem, and other popular artists.

YouTube Inc. set quite a challenge for itself by working hard to make the first YouTube awards a hit. YouTube pulled the show off amazingly for the first time, making it a trending topic on Twitter. The only unfortunate thing about the YouTube Awards, happens to be that it got distracted by its own gimmick and everything got overwhelmed with the inspired performances and subsequent dance parties.

Other popular awards shows are entirely different because unlike the Grammy’s or the MTV Video Music Awards, fans decided the winners of the awards. Some of the popular winners of the first YouTube awards were Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and One Direction.

YouTube promised and delivered a set of strange and exciting surprises, including the creation and broadcast of music videos for YouTube. However, the YouTube awards were not your typical red-carpet theme with a few songs and dances held between speeches, but disorganized events that broke down boundaries between YouTube stars and their fans. YouTube sought to redefine expectations for a celebration of trending music and instead, fell short of revolutionizing them.

Despite all the good and bad things that came with the awards, it was quite a topic to be discussed on Google Blogs and Twitter.
