Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX – 3/6/20

This game was already released back in 2005 under the name of “Red/Blue Rescue Team,” but this new release is significant. “DX” marks the first time a side game of the Pokemon series is being remade. It is true that Red/Blue, Ruby/Sapphire, and Black/White have all been remade, but these were all main series releases. Side series are offshoots of the main games. This usually means they differ in gameplay or follow a different storyline. In the case of  “Mystery Dungeon,” instead of catching and battling Pokemon, you befriend them and you are one. So which ones do you get to play as? It’s a long list. You can play as: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Chikorita, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Pikachu, Eevee, and Skitty. Newcomers to the playable roster include Machop, Meowth, and Psyduck. Interestingly, they didn’t include the popular Riolu and went with Machop. The gameplay is a lot like its predescessors. You run around dungeons in turn-based combat to solve missions you get from the bulletin board. Most notably, you get to encounter shiny Pokemon in the game. This one promises to add many new features!

Ori and the Will of the Wisps – 3-11-20

“Will of the Wisps” is a sequel to the 2015 release of “Ori and the Blind Forest.” Apparently, “Will of the Wisps” should be to “Blind Forest” as “SMB3” was to “Super Mario Bros.” If you aren’t familiar with any of those, it’s basically saying “this one is going to be a lot better then the first one.” In the game you play as Ori and head beyond the forest of Nibel. The goal is to put a family of owls back together without getting killed, all while discovering Ori’s true destiny as a spirit. Information is scarce, but basically people are comparing the gameplay to Hollow Knight, a similarly styled game. There are also plans for a lot of merch to come out, such as plushies and nightlights.

Bleeding Edge – 03-24-20

Do you like “Overwatch?” Do you want to play it again without actually playing “Overwatch?” Then “Bleeding Edge” is the game for you. Each character has its specialities, weaknesses, etc. If you know anything about “Overwatch,” that knowledge applies to this game. The market is being oversaturated with these online multiplayer brawlers. They’re such a cash grab that rip-offs and knockoffs have been made, bringing more games in that people get tired of. They have to add something new and unique to make the genre feel exciting again. “Bleeding Edge” appears to focus on characters, even if they seem like they would fit perfectly in “Overwatch.” One of my favorites is Cass, who has robot looking bird legs and runs around like a chicken. She can jump high, but there’s really not much else to say.
