Music is always slow at the beginning of the year, and this year is no different. March has arrived, and many highly anticipated albums are scheduled for the later months. March has a few albums coming out that may be good. Some weren’t advertised as much, but some of the best albums of the year have been kept low.

            PHARRELL-GIRL

            Pharrell Williams, G I R L, March 3rd

Pharrell Williams blew up last year in the music scene, providing vocals for the Grammy winning album “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk. He’s been around for a while, but people are just starting to discover him, and he’s getting the attention he deserves. “G I R L” is Pharrell’s second studio album. The album will be released on March 3rd, 2014. The lead single for “G I R L” is the Academy Award nominated single, “Happy,” which is from the “Despicable Me 2” soundtrack. The album contains guest appearances by Kelly Osbourne, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk, JoJo, Alicia Keys, Tori Kelly, and Leah LaBelle.

            311, Steriolithic, March 11th

“Steriolithic” is the eleventh studio album by alternative rock and reggae group 311. It’s the bands first independent release since “Omaha Sessions.” The group gained some controversy after leaving a major record label. Lead singer Nick Hexum described that “the label system is corrupt; they’re so incompetent with their ability to bring any value to the table. Its just a rip off.” They reunited with their old producer Scott Ralston to produce the new album. The album is considered to have dark themes, and mainly darker lyricism.

Foster the People, Supermodel, March 14th

“Supermodel” is the second studio album by the indie rock group Foster the People. They gained fame after releasing their hit single “Pumped Up Kicks” in 2011. The album is lead by two singles, “Coming of Age” and “Pseudologia Fantastica.”  “Supermodel” is considered to have a more natural sound. The lyrics have been described by lead singer Mark Foster as “angry.” Mark Foster intends to release a third single before the release of “Supermodel.”

The year is still early and the most highly anticipated albums are yet to come. Music seems slow but in the following months it will get faster and more music will be released. The music scene will pick up quickly, but for now we just have to wait.
