Silver Linings Playbook, a film by David O. Russell and staring Bradley Cooper as Pat Solitano and Jennifer Lawrence as Tiffany, is a drama packed romance about two unexpected people falling in love. The movie begins when Pat Solitano gets released from a mental health facility into the care of his parents after eight months of treatment for bipolar disorder. Weeks later at a dinner, Pat meets Tiffany Maxwell, a recent widow who has just lost her job. They soon develop a very good friendship and sparks start to fly.
Pats father, Pat Sr., asks him to attend a Philadelphia Eagles game, a game that he has bet almost all of his life’s savings on because Pat is his good-luck charm. But Pat is dragged into a fight with thugs attacking his psychiatrist and brother Jake and is hauled away by police. The true romance gets underway when Pat Sr. signs Pat Jr. and Tiffany sign up for a dance competition to win back the money that was lost on the Eagles game.
As the movie goes on Pat Sr. notices how the Eagles seem to win every game when Pat Jr. and Tiffany are together and happy. Meanwhile, Pat Sr’s., gambling gets out of control; he is so intent on winning his money back he forgets what really matters in life: happiness and love.
This movie was a romantic comedy-drama and teaches the basic principle of life. I give this movie five stars for the dramatic storyline, the relatable feelings, and the “awh” affect it will give. This is a must see for anyone who enjoys love stories and appreciates a good surprise.
The movie was released November 16, 2012, and is now at Redbox for a limited time.
