Avoiding the Flu

There is a new sickness in town: the coronavirus. According to internet sources, there have been 71 cases in the United States. Like other strands of the flu, virus is more harmful to babies and elderly people. Some symptoms include the fever, a cough and shortness of breath. However, sometimes the symptoms aren’t even noticeable. Although in rural Nebraska there haven’t been any cases, it is important to avoid getting sick. Here are a couple ways to stay healthy.

The simplest and easiest way to stay healthy is washing your hands. Wash your hands after you use the restroom, before you prepare or eat food, or just in general. The key rule to washing your hands is to count to twenty while doing it and use warm water and soap. If a sink is not near, use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.

If you are feeling sick, you should stay home. It is important to rest and not be in public if you are not feeling well. If someone else is sick, do not spend too much time around them and do not touch them. If you have to cough or sneeze, make sure you do it in a kleenex or your elbow sleeve. After coughing or sneezing, make sure to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.

At all times, avoid touching your face. Many germs from your hands are easily transferred to your face, which is the worst place for them to be. You are constantly touching door knobs, pencils and much more that will transfer germs. Make sure these germs are not going near your nose, eyes or mouth.

One key requirement for people who have the symptoms of the coronavirus is to wear a mask. If you are caring for someone who is sick, make sure to wear a face mask. Face masks are relevant because they stop airborne germs from spreading from the mouth and nose.

These tips can help people stay healthy from all sicknesses, such as Influenza A and B. During flu season, it is important to do everything you can to avoid getting sick.
