There are many people around the high school that you see all the time but don’t know what they do. One of these people is Mrs. Shannon Garwood. She is in charge of quite a few programs including Teacher Aide, Work Co-op, WNCC dual credit classes, and the Box Butte General Hospital Health Cadet Program. She also assists with state ACT and she is the sponsor for the AHS A-club.

Teacher Aide is only for juniors and seniors. These students are placed with a teacher at APS or at St. Agnes. Mrs. Garwood is in charge of student placement, monitoring student success, and teaching students proper etiquette. She said “I enjoy this program because I get to see first hand the positive effects an older student can have on younger students.  I have had teachers and principals tell me how valuable it is to have that positive role model in the classrooms.”

Work Co-op is another program for juniors and seniors. These students get to work outside of school and earn high school credit. Mrs. Garwood oversees the students, and monitors their work hours and how they do.

BBGH Health Cadet Program has quite a few people who apply, but only 6 people are selected for this program. Mrs. Garwood heps the hospital with the selection process and the students with the documents that are needed. This program gives students a view into the medical world.

Mrs. Garwood also helps Mr. Clear with the State ACT. She makes sure the test goes good and there aren’t any issues.

In addition, she is also the sponsor for the AHS A-Club. With being the sponsor for this club she is kept super busy doing concessions for the different sports. On top of all of this she helps in the office when Coach J or Ms. Hiemstra can’t be there.

As you can see Mrs. Garwood is a very busy person. She helps the juniors and seniors with a bunch of different classes. She is always busy helping with something and the students all love her.
