Cheer Season: 2018-19

Cheerleading is so much more than a sideline sport, and each of the Alliance cheerleaders can tell you that. Cheerleading requires physical stamina and a lot of mental discipline. In between the toe touches, stunting, and all the chants, there is the family aspect of the sport that most outsiders don’t get to really see. Going to team dinners and sleepovers is probably the best part of cheer.

Maycee Quick, a junior at Alliance High School, deals with a double whammy, on top of being one of the leaders on the team, her mom, Tara Quick, is also her cheer coach. When asked if her mom coaching her was any different than Coach Swanson, she replied “Yeah! My mom is harder on me, and Coach Swanson is more understanding.” Tara was asked if coaching her daughter was different in any way and she said “Yes, I expect more from Maycee and she knows it. Luckily for me, Maycee pushes herself everyday and works extremely hard.”

Coach Swanson and Coach Tara both said that their seniors this year are outstanding! They all have great leadership and are good girls for the freshmen to look up too. Coach Swanson says the freshman are “Doing a great job! They are learning material really quickly!”.

According to the coaches there is nothing new this year, except they had their NCA camp come here over the summer, instead of the team going elsewhere.

There are five seniors on the team this year: Emme Grant, Elise Stoike, Katelyn Nunes, Madison Korte, and Madison Gibson. Senior, Elise Stoike says, “I am super ready for this season and am extremely excited to see what our squad can do”, when asked how they felt about her senior year of cheer.

Katelyn Nunes, who is also a senior, was asked how she felt about being a leader on the team. “I love being able to be a positive role model for the new girls because they are going to be the ones running the squad when we leave and I want to make sure they are doing what needs to be done and being leaders themselves.”

This year is going to be a great year for the AHS cheerleaders and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store.
