On Monday December 8, a plane that took off from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, approached a runway at the Montgomery Country Airpark and crashed into a Maryland home, setting two others on fire. Firefighters were able to keep the fire under control. The accident happened around 11 a.m. A mother and her two children are missing. Investigators are trying to verify what happened to the three missing individuals.

A women who lives near the crash told CNN affiliate WUSA she might have heard victims calling for help. There were three people on the plane that were confirmed dead in the crash, according to Montgomery Country fire spokesman, Pete Pringer. A women said,”I heard a big sputtering sound. By the time we rushed over here, you see a plane hit the side of the house and then crash right down and there was a big explosion.” Fred Pedreira, a 67 year old man, saw the fast jet with the wheels down said,” I think he’s coming in too low. Then he was 90 degrees sideways and then went belly-up into the house and it was a ball of fire. I tell you, I got goosebumps when I saw it.” He said,” My God, those are people in that plane.” Emily Gradwohl, 22, lives two doors down from the house ran outside to see what happened. She said planes fly low over the neighborhood every day but she had never worried about a crash until now. The home was gutted by the plane.

A preliminary investigation has determined that there was no indication of engine trouble. It also revealed that there was no evidence of bird ingestion in the engines and bad weather was not a factor in the crash. Investigators planned to remain on the scene for up to seven days collecting evidence.
