Trick-or-treat

Obviously, the scariest day of the year is October 31, Halloween night!

It’s a fun time of the year especially for little kids, because they get to dress up like their favorite fantasy characters or superheroes, but mostly, they get to go around house to house and shop for candy.

In Spain we also celebrate this event and some aspects we do are very similar, we dress up, go to houses for candy…but it’s not such a big event like in the United States.

The big differences that I found with Halloween in the U.S is that they make parties at their houses and invite friends over, the shops give out candy to the little kids and one typical food that people make are apples with caramel all over it and some sprinkles on top.  Some people decorate their houses really well with scary decorations, and they carve pumpkins and make fun shapes or scary faces on them.

In general, I had a great time being able to go out with my little host brothers and see most of the town, walk down the main street trick or treating, and being able to attend a big house party, with a privet DJ, yummy foods, and the most important a corn maze. It was the scariest thing ever, it was really dark and people dressed up as zombies and scary creatures would jump out and scare you or they would start chasing you down the paths of the maze.

Overall I found out than some people from the United States take this event very seriously and try to make a fun night for everyone by eating and sharing different kind of candies.
