My high school experience wasn’t spent at just one school but three. I’ve moved around a lot my entire childhood, having to learn to adapt to the new cliques and the changes in education. When I arrived at Alliance High School during my junior year, I had the notion that my experience was going to be horrendous, “moving junior year what could be worse?” Instead of this predetermined thought becoming true I was welcomed with open arms. The staff here at Alliance High School understood the challenges of transferring and were there to help with the adjustments. When talking to the counselors about my future classes, journalism was recommended to me to enhance some of my skills.
So journalism is what I took, and I’m very glad I did. The opportunities I’ve gotten in this class to interview and tell my stories are just some of the many great things about this class. Journalism became my big family, a class where talking and laughs were encouraged and where I built many friendships.
Without Journalism and the chance to participate in the SPUD I wouldn’t be as open-minded and outspoken as I am. I would be the shy new kid in a small town because in the SPUD it was my job to interview new people and leave my comfort zone. Journalism in a way has taught me more about myself than I knew.
I’m very thankful for these life lessons and the experiences I’ve had through this past year with journalism and am proud of my time at the SPUD! Thank you for all the great memories!
